Why you should vote for danny

Edmonton native / long time resident of Ward 7

Danny is Edmonton through and through. Born and raised in the city, he’s spent most of his life in Ward 7—growing up in Lymburn, navigating his teenage years in Wolf Willow, and later calling Hermitage and Glenwood home. Since 2020, he’s been proudly rooted in Gariepy (Lessard), where he continues to stay engaged with the community. These neighbourhoods aren’t just places on a map—they’re where Danny built lifelong relationships, learned the value of hard work, and developed a deep understanding of the challenges and strengths that define Edmonton’s west end.

Education

Danny is a proud 2010 graduate of the University of Alberta, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Sociology. His time as a research assistant under esteemed professors N. Brown and P.J. Lee gave him a strong foundation in data analysis and critical research methods—skills that will serve him well in public office. When city officials claim to have 'done their research,' Danny has the training to dig deeper, ask the right questions, and hold decision-makers accountable.

Beyond his major, Danny excelled in Political Science, Economics, and Earth & Atmospheric Sciences—fields that sharpened his understanding of governance, fiscal responsibility, and environmental stewardship. His academic journey reflects a deep curiosity and a commitment to evidence-based leadership.

small business owner - entrepreneurship

Danny is a passionate champion for small businesses and understands the vital role they play in Edmonton’s economy. He’s committed to cutting through red tape and streamlining processes - making it easier for entrepreneurs to set up shop, thrive, and contribute to a vibrant, growing city.

Since 2015, Danny has grown a network of Benjamin Moore stores into northern Alberta’s highest-volume retailer—overseeing multi-million dollar operations with a steady hand and a clear vision. At the heart of it all is his unwavering belief that customer service comes first. Danny ensures every client feels heard, respected, and supported.  See some reviews from his stores HERE.

His long-standing team of trusted staff allows him to focus on expanding the business, securing high-volume partnerships, and negotiating major contracts.

And true to form, even while running for office, Danny didn’t slow down - he proactively secured his largest client to date. It’s a testament to his work ethic, his leadership, and his commitment to delivering results without compromising the values that got him there.

Active in the Business Community -   For years, Danny has been a driving force behind the success of countless small businesses—offering mentorship, sharing hard-earned insights, and helping others improve their operations. He’s not in it for recognition or reward. What matters most to him is earning the respect of his community through integrity, generosity, and a commitment to lifting others up. Danny believes that leadership means showing up, giving back, and doing the right thing. Check out his peer endorsements below.

Community / volunteer / governance experience

Danny’s commitment to community isn’t about padding a résumé - it’s about rolling up his sleeves and making a real difference. He’s taken on active leadership roles that reflect his values and his drive to serve.

As President of the non-profit Edmonton Intercultural Centre, Danny led one of his proudest achievements: negotiating a lease agreement with the City of Edmonton that secured the Centre’s future and expanded its ability to serve diverse communities.

He also served as Vice President for non-profit Community Options, an organization supporting children and families, where he helped oversee a multi-million dollar budget to ensure programs remained accessible, inclusive, and impactful.

Danny’s board experience is equally robust.

He’s the current President of Lessard Village and serves as a Board Director for the United Conservative Party in Edmonton‑McClung, as well as for Federal Conservative MP Kelly McCauley’s EDA. He previously held the role of Vice President at the Lessard Community League.

Beyond titles, Danny shows up—time and again—for the people of Edmonton. He volunteers at fundraisers, joins clean-up crews, organizes bottle drives, and donates regularly to the Food Bank and Hope Mission. He even contributes paint to Habitat for Humanity, helping turn houses into homes. For Danny, public service is personal, and leadership means being present where it counts most.

Political engagement and prior runs

Danny’s commitment to public service is long-standing and hands-on. He first ran for Edmonton City Council in 2021, and in 2023, he stepped forward as the United Conservative Party candidate for Edmonton–McClung. That experience not only deepened his understanding of provincial politics—it helped him build meaningful relationships across government that will benefit Edmonton through stronger collaboration and advocacy.

This is Danny’s third campaign in four years—a testament to his persistence, resilience, and belief in the power of civic engagement. He doesn’t back down from challenges, and he doesn’t wait for perfect conditions to lead.

At the municipal level, Danny remains proudly independent. He believes accountability starts with the people—not party lines—and is focused on representing constituents directly, without the influence of formal municipal party structures. His approach is rooted in transparency, responsiveness, and a belief that good governance begins with listening.

Personal journey

Danny’s story is one of resilience, gratitude, and grit. Adopted into a loving home, he grew up with a deep appreciation for family and community. Losing his mother in his late-20s was a defining moment—one that strengthened his resolve to live with purpose and lead with compassion. When he started his business, Danny put his employees first, even if it meant living on just $20,000 a year. That experience shaped his belief that leadership isn’t about personal gain—it’s about lifting others up, even when the road is tough.

At the center of Danny’s journey is his partner of six years, Leann - a creative force, steady hand, and unwavering believer in the work they’re doing together. As campaign manager and brand creative, Leann doesn’t just support Danny’s vision, she helps shape it. From strategy sessions to late-night design tweaks, she’s behind the scenes making sure every detail reflects the values they share: integrity, community, and service.

Leann is a small business owner in the trades, a passionate Arts advocate & supporter, and community volunteer serving on several non-profit boards. Her understanding of public life and her ability to bring clarity and heart to complex challenges have been instrumental in every campaign. For Danny, her support isn’t just meaningful, it’s the foundation of the grounded, people-first leadership he brings to the table.

“We’re not just running a campaign - we’re building something that reflects who we are and what this city deserves. I believe in Danny because I see the way he shows up for people, even when no one’s watching.” ~Leann

Their partnership is built on trust, shared purpose, and a deep commitment to building a stronger Edmonton - together.

"I first met Danny when I first arrived in Canada 18 years ago. I own a Painting and Decorating Company and at that time he was the manager of our local Sherwin Williams Store. Top of the line kind of guy, down to earth, incredibly knowledgeable, relatable, dedicated to his craft and more importantly to all his clients who he treated like friends.

When Danny opened his own Benjamin Store, he took his level of dedication and service to a whole new level. Always available, always dependable and always present and when you really need him to come through, ALWAYS THERE!

I have come to count him now as a friend and he has set the bar for exceptional service that EVERYONE can expect from him, extremely high! Just a salt of the Earth guy who you can rely on and that is pretty rare these days!”

"Okay, obviously I have a biased opinion of my partner Danny Heikkinen… but seriously. He’s a genuine good guy. Like, the real kind. The kind you don’t see enough of anymore.

If you’ve ever seen A Man Called Otto with Tom Hanks… Danny would be the guy who jumps onto the subway tracks to save someone while everyone else just stands there filming. I have no doubt. I’ve seen him help people over and over again. He just notices things. He’s always tuned in to what people need.

Or when we go out somewhere and he holds the door open for me… and then for everyone else. I’m already ten feet ahead before I realize he’s still back there, holding the door like a gentleman for a whole lineup of strangers. It’s just who he is.

If you want someone who leads with heart, who listens, who shows up, Danny’s your guy."

~Leann Ebert, Walls Revived Inc.

"My dad adopted me 6 years ago when my mom moved me in with them. It took me awhile, but I think I like him...sometimes.  He squishes and kisses me too much and reminds me of Elmyra (from Tiny Tunes). I get my revenge by waking him up at all hours of the night. Anyways, he does play with me and shows me off to everyone he meets cuz I'm his phone screensaver, so that's cool. He listens when I tell him about my day watching Edgar (the squirrel) or he acknowledges my complaints about the village crow. He's very protective of me and doesn't let me roam outside because he says a coyote might eat me. That's fair I guess, I know he loves me. All in all, I couldn't ask for a better cat-dad."
